Learning to DrinkI am a twenty-four-year-old married Christian who loves the Lord Jesus, and I am becoming more and more appreciative of my up-bringing every day. I grew up in a Christian home. My parents meet with the local church in Dallas and love the Lord very much. Our house was always full of fellow believers eating, meeting, singing, praying, and praising the Lord! The riches of the enjoyment of Christ filled our house. I enjoyed all of the people and food, and a house filled with singing to the Lord provided a great atmosphere to grow up in. I was simply enjoying these things as a child, but now I realize how fortunate I was. At a very young age, I loved singing songs to the Lord. While singing, I learned to exercise my human spirit to contact Him in a genuine way, to have fellowship with the Lord Himself! I also gained both the knowledge of, and a love for the Bible, for the Lord, and for God's heart's desire (Ephesians 1:5, 9). One of the main reasons that I am gaining such an appreciation for my childhood issues from my interaction with college-age students. I regularly preach the gospel on a college campus and in doing so, I meet people from all sorts of backgrounds. Some have never heard the gospel before. Some have a sweet relationship with the Lord, but many who say that they grew up in Christian homes have never received the Lord and only a very small number of them know how to pray, and even fewer enjoy talking to the Lord on a regular basis. I grew up in a family environment of drawing water with rejoicing from the springs of salvation (Isaiah 12:3). Yet so many believers that I meet on campus have never experienced the joy of their salvation and don't enjoy the simple availability of the Lord. Meeting with the believers in the local church, I learned to contact the Lord in such a fresh way and discovered how simple and satisfying it was to drink from the `springs of salvation' (Isaiah 12:3). I thank Him that He placed me in such a wonderful environment full of people enjoying Him and I praise Him that as believers in the Lord and as members of His Body, together we can experience and enjoy the supply that issues from Christ as our Head (Ephesians 4:15-16).
